I recently had the pleasure of being invited to participate in a panel discussion on Google+ Hangout on the topic of the Future of IT. I was joined by other esteemed guests including Paul Saffo, an acclaimed futurist, MD of Foresight at Discern Analytics, and a Stanford University professor; Mark Burgess, researcher, author and founder of CFEngine; Chris Priemesberger, journalist and eWeek editor; and Paul Chapman, VMware’s VP of IT. The topics were not all technical, but they were all very interesting and challenging. It’s not just about the technology but the impact of technology on people too. If you’d like to take a look into the crystal ball, read on.
VMware has published a summary including the full recording on their company blog titled Data Centers Down the Street? What The Experts Predict Will Happen to it. I have included an embedded link to the recording below for your viewing pleasure. From my point of view there should be no surprise that convergence and the need to drive simplicity feature greatly in the Future of IT. Who will be the value creators and who will be the value consumers in this new world order?
